SMS Opt-In Consent

How TRIO programs using TRIOPilot collect text-messaging consent from participants.

About TRIOPilot

TRIOPilot is a student case-management platform used by federally funded TRIO college-access programs at colleges and universities. Each program operates on its own subdomain of triopilot.com (for example, program-name.triopilot.com). The root site you are reading now is the product marketing site; participant-facing forms, including the SMS opt-in, live on the program subdomains.

The One Opt-In Path

Participants opt in to text messages in exactly one place: their program's public application form. The form is open to anyone (no login, no paywall). It asks for the applicant's mobile number and then presents an explicit consent question with no pre-selected answer:

May we send you text messages about the program? *

By selecting Yes, you agree to receive text messages from [Program Name] at the number provided (e.g. appointment reminders and program updates). Consent is not a condition of receiving services. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. View our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

The rendering above reproduces the live form's consent block. See it live, exactly as participants do, on the demonstration program's public application (no authentication required): https://eoc-demo.triopilot.com/student/application (the "May we send you text messages" question, directly below the Mobile Phone field).

How Consent Is Enforced

  • Consent is stored on the participant's record. Program staff can only send messages to participants whose record shows an explicit Yes; the send screen displays the consent status and blocks opted-out recipients.
  • Replying STOP automatically records an opt-out and blocks further messages. Replying START re-enables them. Replying HELP returns assistance information.
  • Messages are one-to-one program communications: appointment reminders, deadline reminders (such as financial aid), and program updates. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
  • No mobile information, including phone numbers and opt-in status, is sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
